Counselling

Counselling can be a way to gently bring difficult experiences into the light, without judgement, and begin to understand what may be happening beneath the surface. Whether these challenges emerge gradually or follow a significant event or change, experiences such as anxiety, depression, grief, burnout, relationship strain, or a loss of direction and identity can leave us feeling unsettled, confused, or disconnected from ourselves. Together, we can explore what feels most helpful and what may support you in moving towards the life and relationships you want to create.

I work with people not only to find relief from distress, but also to process difficult emotions, develop greater self-understanding, emotional awareness, authenticity, and meaningful change. Where helpful, I also incorporate nervous system awareness, supporting people to understand their internal responses and develop practical ways to create greater regulation, resilience, and a sense of safety within themselves and the world around them.

How I Work

My approach is relational, and integrative. I draw from person-centred, narrative therapy, psychodynamic, emotion focused, CBT and depth-oriented approaches, adapting the counselling process to each person’s individual experience, pace, and needs. Rather than working from a rigid model, I respond to each person’s unique life journey, pace, and inner world.

Where helpful, I also support clients to better understand their nervous system, recognise how it influences their thoughts, emotions, and behaviour, and develop practical ways to regulate it, increasing their capacity to respond more intentionally to life's challenges.

At the heart of my work is the belief that meaningful therapy happens within a safe and authentic therapeutic relationship.

Online & In-Person Sessions

I offer counselling and counselling supervision both online and in person from Brisbane, working with individuals across Australia and internationally.

Online sessions provide a flexible and accessible way to engage in meaningful therapeutic work from a familiar and comfortable environment.

Mindfulness, Meditation & Integrative Support

Alongside counselling, I also offer support for people interested in mindfulness and meditation as therapy. Meditation has a strong evidence base for supporting mental and physical health, stress management, emotional regulation, and pain management. Beyond these benefits, meditation can also provide a framework for mindfulness, self-understanding, personal growth, and reflection on deeper questions of meaning, identity, purpose and the nature of being.

Beyond my formal counselling training, I've spent many years exploring contemplative practice and a range of approaches to human development and healing, including traditional wisdom teachings. This broader learning has deepened my appreciation for the many ways people make meaning of their lives, navigate periods of change, and experience personal transformation. While my work remains grounded in contemporary counselling theory and practice, I may draw on these perspectives as complementary reflective tools where they align with a client's interests, values, and therapeutic goals.

About Robert

What drew me to counselling was the opportunity to understand the person behind their experiences, their history, their patterns, their relationships, and the ways they have learned to navigate the world. I believe that change happens through a process of being seen, understood, developing greater awareness, and building a more compassionate and authentic relationship with ourselves.

I feel privileged to accompany people through periods of difficulty, transition, and growth, supporting them to gain clarity, process what has shaped them, and develop new ways of relating to themselves and their lives.

I have long had a deep interest in human growth, healing, and wellbeing. Over the years I have worked with people from diverse backgrounds and have a focus on what the common, underlying needs are for people in our shared experience of being human.

Within and also outside of my professional training, I have a longstanding interest in meditation, mindfulness, and the ways in which emotional, psychological, physical, and spiritual wellbeing interweave in the flow of our lives.

Above all, I aim to provide a warm, respectful, and authentic space where people feel heard, understood, and supported.

Getting Started & Taking the first step

Beginning counselling can feel significant and there is no right or wrong time to get started. People often experience anxieties around a first session and then find they very quickly feel safer and more relaxed than they imagined. You’re welcome to reach out with any questions or arrange an initial chat to explore whether working together feels like a good fit..
